SMALLEY, ADAM Dec. 24, 1928 to Jan. 18, 2010 Adam was born in Syracuse, New York, where he worked for 25 years as a Roman Catholic priest. After moving to San Diego, where he met his wife of 26 years, Diane Strong, Adam worked at Scripps Clinic and The San Diego Foundation as a fundraiser. Adam and Diane traveled extensively, moving to Borrego Springs in 1999 and Mesquite, Nevada, in 2008. Adam touched many lives and shared friendships from coast to coast. His sudden passing will leave an emptiness for all and he will be missed by those near and far.

It was with profound shock and sadness when we learned of Adam's passing. He was an absolute favorite person of ours. His sense of humor was always a delight and we'll miss the songs that he always played when we got together.
We were fortunate to live close in the Roadrunner and I'm glad we were able to keep in contact after you moved.
Take care of yourself Diane and we think about you often.

I always enjoyed crossing paths with Adam whether it was at professional meetings, at Scripps or in the building where he (and my uncle) lived. He was a professional, helpful and caring gentleman.

There is such a sadness in the air in reading this today. Adam was such a gentleman, a kind human being, with an interest in everyone. He was such a good listener and had compassion for the world around him. It was always nice to run into him at various luncheons or fundraising events. He will sure be missed.

Dear Diane, it is still a shock to both me and Missi that Adam is no longer with us. His Spirit and Memory will live in all of us who were fortunate to know him. Take good care of yourself! Love, Juan and Missi.

I had the pleasure of working with Adam many years ago when he was at Scripps. He was someone everyone admired and liked. A true professional, he always had time for you and freely shared his gentle sense of humor and wisdom. Thinking of you, Diane.

One of the finest moments was when, as vice president-development at Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation in La Jolla, Adam came to me for a position in our fundraising program. He assumed the role of corporate fundraising and did a masterful job. I was very proud of Adam and so pleased in his continued efforts for philanthropy in the San Diego area. God Bless you Adam.
